The ideal candidate will provide leadership of a music ministry that supports the worship of the congregation. Principal duties are to provide organ music, rehearse weekly and direct a semi-professional choir at the 10:00 am Sunday morning eucharist and seven additional services during the year. PRE-KINDERGARTEN TEACHER — FULLTIME |   BISHOP WALKER SCHOOL –  WASHINGTON, DC

The the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys, a newly organized school serving underserved communities east of the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C., is offering a unique opportunity to become a founding teacher in their Pre-Kindergarten program for the 2008-2009 school year.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Developing and implementing developmentally appropriate curricula and extracurricular programming;
  • Working collaboratively with team members in early childhood education to support individualized education through assessment and planning and supporting families in meeting the educational goals for their young boys.

As the Bishop Walker School is new, teachers should possess considerable creativity and initiative to meet the needs of a developing program, as well as the willingness to take on a variety of tasks.

Candidates must have the following:

  • A degree in early childhood education, elementary or special education;
  • A strong knowledge of early childhood curricula and instruction methods;
  • Experience and expertise in working with students from low-income households;
  • The ability to work in a team teaching environment;
  • Effective communication skills;
  • A collaborative spirit and resourceful, organized, flexible and self-directed work methods.
