ASHES TO GO

For many years, the clergy and lay leaders in the diocese have participated in “Ashes to Go” — a way of marking Ash Wednesday by distributing ashes in public places to those for whom attending an Ash Wednesday service is a challenge. Locations have included Metro stops, coffee shops, train terminals, and even “drive through” options at various churches.

By meeting people where they are, we live into our mission to draw people to Jesus and embody his love for the world.

Congregations that wish to participate in Ashes to Go are requested to follow all local government guidelines about public assembly. We encourage you to spread the word widely on social media using the hashtags #ashestogo and #EDOW and to take photos as appropriate and with permission. Also, contact Keely Thrall, Communications Manager, with the schedule and location of your Ashes to Go activities.
