Healing from Internalized Oppression

February 3 @ 6:00 pm - February 4 @ 4:00 pm

Healing from Internalized Oppression

One of the six issues named in the September 2022 Task Force on Black Ministries’ Report that prevents the Black Church from thriving in the Diocese of Washington is the impact and effects of internalized oppression.  We are excited to be able to offer a workshop, Healing from Internalized Oppression, from the Episcopal Office of African Descent Ministries that addresses this issue. The workshop will be held on the evening of Friday, February 3 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and during the day on Saturday, February 4 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Rock Creek. Dinner will be served on Friday and a continental breakfast and lunch on Saturday.

It is interesting to note that this training, Healing from Internalized Oppression, was developed in the same room as the program, Sacred Ground, which has been widely used in our diocese. Sacred Ground was designed to help with racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society but was especially designed to help white people talk with other white people. The Healing from Internalized Oppression workshop is specifically for people of color.
