Saying Yes to God Again: A Lenten Silent Retreat with Rev. Martin L. Smith

Yes may be the most crucial word in Christian spirituality. Hearing God’s yes to us in Christ, just as we are now. Working through issues of misgiving and mistrust that are simply part of being human and hold us back from saying yes to God. Finding a new freedom to say a heartfelt yes to God in the place where we find ourselves today, especially as darker clouds are rolling over the skies of our fractured world. Join us for a retreat with ample silent time for reflection and prayer, and addresses to help us personally explore this profound Lenten theme.

A silent retreat weekend is a special “time apart,” a few days away from the everyday routine with nothing required but learning, listening, and connecting with God. It can be refreshing and reassuring to reduce our interactions with each other and nurture our relationships with ourselves and with the Divine. Whether you are a silent retreat veteran or a newcomer to the concept, you are most welcome!

The weekend schedule includes time for self-directed activities for prayer, reading, journaling, exploring the property’s beautiful trails, walking the labyrinth, arts & crafts, napping… or whatever other restorative activities the Spirit suggests!

Fr. Martin Smith is well known throughout the Episcopal Church and beyond as a leader of retreats and workshops, theologian, lecturer and preacher, and as a writer exploring contemporary spirituality. His widely read books include The Word is Very Near You, A Season for the Spirit, Love Set Free, Reconciliation and Compass and Stars. His Washington home is the base for a continued roving ministry of spiritual formation that he has been pursuing for over forty five years. He was formerly Senior Associate Rector of St Columba’s parish.
