There will be a free showing of the film, The Philadelphia Eleven, at All Souls Episcopal Church, 2300 Cathedral Avenue, N.W., in Washington DC. on May 5, 2024 at 3 pm. The film is a documentary of the ordination to the priesthood in 1974 of eleven women. That event paved the way for the recognition of women as priests in the Episcopal Church in 1976.
Following the film, there will be a Question and Answer session with The Reverend Dr. Carter Heyward, one of the Philadelphia Eleven. Dr. Heyward is an American feminist theologian and priest in the Episcopal Church. From 1975-2005, she served as Professor of Theology at Episcopal Divinity School. She is the author of eleven books, including her most recent, The Seven Deadly Sins of White Christian Nationalism: A Call to Action.
The event is free and open to the community. Refreshments will be provided.
