Sexuality and Theology Workshop
On Thursday, May 4, 11, and 18 at 7:00 p.m., St. Paul’s, Peace Lutheran (Waldorf), and Christ Church (La Plata) will co-host a series of Zoom workshops on the intersection of theology, Scripture, gender, and sexuality. The workshop is open to EVERYONE, including those who yearn to understand what Scripture says and doesn’t say about sexuality; those who seek to be affirmed in their personhood no matter what may have been said or done to them in the past or present; those with practical questions; and those who aren’t sure where to begin. The workshop will be led by the Rev. Jerry Maynard, theologian, pastor, and curriculum writer for the Episcopal Church. This workshop is not intended to tell you what or how to think but to answer questions, inform, equip, and support so that we can transcend soundbites and be united in God’s love for the healing of the world. For more than 50 years, The Episcopal Church has long upheld the dignity, sacred worth, and belovedness of every human being, including those who identify as LGBTQIA+. This theology is rooted in the spirit and likeness of Jesus Christ who welcomed, embraced, and adored all people. It’s also rooted in our baptismal covenant wherein we promise to strive for justice and peace among all people and to respect the dignity of every human being. Although such matters transcend contemporary politics, we know that not everyone is at the same place on this journey.
**Participating Episcopal churches include St. Paul’s (Waldorf), Christ Church (La Plata & Wayside), Christ Church (Nanjemoy), All Faith (Charlotte Hall), St. Thomas (Upper Marlboro), Trinity (Upper Marlboro), and All Saints’ (Sunderland).**
