Service of Choral Evensong and Dedication of the St. Phoebe Statue

A special Choral Evensong service that includes the dedication of the newest statue in the cathedral, the statue of St. Phoebe.
Phoebe was a deacon of the early Church, commended by St. Paul in Romans 16:1–2 as “our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church at Cenchreae.” She is remembered for her faithful ministry, leadership, hospitality, and service to the Christian community. Many scholars believe she may also have been entrusted to carry Paul’s letter to the Romans, making her one of the first bearers and interpreters of one of Christianity’s most important texts.
For deacons today, St. Phoebe stands as a powerful witness to ministry rooted in compassion, service, relationship, and faithful accompaniment — bridging the needs of the Church and the world with grace and courage.
