In Memoriam: First Lady Rosalynn Carter

by | Nov 20, 2023

We join Americans in giving thanks for the life of Rosalynn Carter, a national treasure who exemplified a life of humanitarian service with a spirit of generosity, dignity and compassion for all of God’s children.

Our prayers are with her beloved husband, President Jimmy Carter, and the entire Carter family as they mourn the loss of a truly remarkable woman. The Carters were married for an amazing 77 years – longer than many people are alive – and their equal partnership reflected a sense of mutual grace, steadfast devotion and tender affection. How blessed they were.

In her work for mental health and care-givers, in eradicating disease and poverty, and most especially in joining her husband to build houses with Habitat for Humanity, Mrs. Carter embodied the Gospel call to care for the least, the lost and the last. Her public acts of private faith radiated the light of God’s love in the darkest corners of our globe. How blessed we were by her example.

Father of all, we pray to you for our sister Rosalynn, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, throug–h the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
