Dear Friends of the Diocese of Washington,
On August 19th, the clergy and lay delegates of the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas elected the Rev. John Harmon, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Washington, DC to serve as their bishop! Please join me in congratulating Father Harmon on his new call and praying for him and his wife, Mrs. Keeva Harmon, as they prepare themselves for the ministry that awaits them.
Father Harmon has served as rector of Trinity, DC since 2000, with a ministry both deep and wide. He and the congregation at Trinity have been longtime champions of the Episcopal Service Corps, inviting young adults to live in Christian community for one or two years, and serve where the love of Christ is most needed. He has also been active in civic life in Washington, DC, served on diocesan bodies, and most recently has been an active member of the Board of Trustees at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland.
Of his years in the Diocese of Washington, Father Harmon says, “It has been a joy to be here. I have grown a lot. The strong clergy and lay leaders here have taught me so much. They raised the bar for the young priest I was when I first came to Trinity. I didn’t want to disappoint them or the congregation.”
Father Harmon’s last Sunday at Trinity will be November 5th. He’ll begin working as Bishop-elect on December 1st. The consecration is scheduled for Saturday, January 6th, 2024.
A note to Father Harmon’s colleagues: We will take time at the next EDOW Clergy Day, Thursday, November 2nd, to send him off with our prayers and support.
We pray, too, for the vestry and congregation of Trinity, DC in this time of transition and leave-taking, and pledge our support as they embark on the next phase of their spiritual journey.
Faithfully,
Bishop Mariann
